Behind the scenes I’ve been having fun meeting some of the nation’s more unusual academics.
It was an idea born when I heard about a heavily tattooed academic called Dr Matt Lodder whose area of expertise was, well, tattoos.
And so it grew.
There was Dr Giorgio Riello, one of the world’s leading expert on the history of shoes.
And then there was the self-described coffin boffin Dr Sam George.
It was topped off by a meeting with Dr Jonathan Amory, the man who is trying to establish whether or not cows have friends.
Sadly time wouldn’t allow me to go out and photograph all of my “unusual academics”, but I’m really pleased with the portraits of those I did get to meet in person.
