The picnickers and the dead whale

The Fin Whale and the People Who Came to Look At It

Today was largely spent at the beach…
With a dead fin whale for company.
What caught my eye was not just the whale, but the people who come to look at it. Some just sat and stared as it bobbed gently to the rhythms of the waves. Some gave it little more than a glance and a shake of the head.
And in some cases they came to enjoy a picnic a few dozen yards from the decomposing carcass of one of nature’s giants.
