Horrortorium

On and off set with the indie horror scene

Horrortorium

I became fascinated by the people involved in the UK's independent horror scene after making a feature on the industry for the BBC.

What particularly struck me was the generosity they showed each other - often travelling hundreds of miles and giving up weekends to work largely for free to help another bring their vision to life.

I was also struck by their backgrounds - nurses, teachers, therapists, academics, tax accountants and leading doctors are among those creating indie horror.

A Nazi officer and a woman whose mouth has been turned into an anus, dancing outside, away from the set

During repeated sessions on various sets I asked actors, production staff and directors to pull away from their main project and help me create alternative story narratives.

I was, secretly, aiming to become my own kind of vampire, feeding on the generosity and creativity of the independent horror industry.

And I am immensely grateful for their kindness and patience.
